Features

Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard is built on the back of the popular and powerful Microsoft Windows Server 2012. The latest version takes everything that you loved from that version of the server and added in some quality-of-life and security enhancements to create the best version of Windows Server yet! Read on to see why Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard is the best server for your government agency.

As Many Users As You Need—A government agency may still end up needing a good number of users for its server. Fortunately, no matter how many users you need, you will always the means to give them access to your server, at any time.

Active Directory Federation Services—Improvements have been made to the Active Directory Federation Services in Microsoft Windows Server 2016. You can now configure ADFS to authenticate users stored in non-Active Directory systems, and add them to your server quickly and easily, allowing to unite your users all under one roof.

Antivirus Better Than Ever—Automatically installed as part of Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard, Windows Defender and Windows Server Antimalware will keep your information safe from outside attack. These services are installed automatically without needing a GUI to do so, ensuring that your server is protected from the moment you power it on!

Storage Services—Included as part of Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard are storage services such as Central Storage QoS Policies and Storage Replicas. The latter include such features as storage agnostic, block level, volume-based, synchronous and asynchronous replication. This allows your system to replicate blocks instead of files, so your files can still be in use during replication. It also periodically replicates snapshots.

IP Address Management—Easily manage your IP addresses with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard, and take advantage of new subnets, discovery of file-based, domain-joined DNS Servers, new DNS functions, and improved integration of DNS and DHCP.

Support for Generic Routing Encapsulation—New to Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard is the support in the Windows Server Gateway for Generic Routing Encapsulation tunnels.

Improved Rolling Hyper-V Cluster Updates—You can update your rolling Hyper-V clusters from Windows Server 2012 R2 to Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard easily. You can add the nodes from 2012 to 2016 and the server will update them. Until they are all upgraded and the entire cluster level is at 2016 levels, the clusters will continue to function as 2012 clusters, ensuring no loss of functionality.

Nano Server—Introduced in Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard, the Nano Server is a new installation option of the server, which allows for a small, minimal footprint headless version. This allows you to take advantage of certain server features without having to install a full server, plus since it is a headless installation, you won't need to invest in any additional hardware for the functionality.

New Server Role—You can now create a new server role called a Network Controller, which allows the user to configure, manage, monitor, and trouble virtual and physical network devices and services in a data center, allowing you greater flexibility in terms of who can make changes to the server and the extent of their duties. This also allows for improved security, since only people qualified for the role will have access to their functions.

Hyper-V Network Virtualization—New to Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard is a programmable Hyper-V switch, which is a new building block of Microsoft's software-defined networking solution, which allows for greater, and easier, network virtualization. Get your server up and running faster than ever before and get back to your work.
